Skylight Installation and New TPO | Los Alamos

November 3, 2025 by John Sanchez

This homeowner wanted to brighten up some space in their house and opted for two brand new Velux Skylights to do so. At Goodrich Roofing, we specialize in skylight installation. As a certified Velux Skylight installer, we offer the highest quality installations at competitive prices.

Why Skylights?

The most obvious advantage to skylights is the stunning natural light they offer. Brightening up a space with natural light makes it feel more open. It also adds adds a unique architectural element. Additionally, skylights are known to reduce energy costs by eliminating the need for artificial lighting during the day. They can provide passive solar heating in cooler months. In this case, the sunroom was transformed with additional brightness for a new look.

Skylight Installation Process

Goodrich Roofing makes skylight installation simple. This skylight project was a part of an entire re-roof. While part of our crew worked on tearing off and installing shingles, the other part worked on the flat section. First, they tore off the existing roofing system, exposing the deck. Then, they measured and cut two holes in the roof where the skylights would be set, ensuring the area was kept clear to reduce mess. After creating and installing the boxes that the skylights sit atop, they finished this installation by adding a new TPO membrane. Now, the skylights blend effortlessly into the roof and are properly sealed so that leaking around the new penetration won’t be a problem. Our expert skylight installers effectively and quickly completed this job.

Velux Skylights

For this job, we used Velux skylights. Goodrich Roofing is a certified Velux skylight installer because we believe that they make some of the best quality skylights on the market. It is important to ensure correct installation, and our Velux certification is a testament to our expert workmanship when it comes to skylight installation.

New Shingle Roof Installation | Edgewood

October 29, 2025 by John Sanchez

We recently completed the installation of a brand new shingle roof in Edgewood, showcasing our expertise and commitment to quality. This project stands out not just for its aesthetic appeal but also for the challenges we encountered during the process.

Challenges Uncovered

Upon starting the tear-off process, we discovered a second layer of roofing materials beneath the existing shingles. This presented an unexpected challenge that required careful handling. Fortunately, we were able to navigate this issue smoothly, ensuring that the underlying structure of the roof remained sound.

Our Solution

One of the significant benefits of this project was that the homeowner’s insurance covered all the costs due to serious hail damage. This ensured that the entire process, from the removal of the old layers to the installation of the new shingle roof, was financially manageable for the client. It is important to understand the extent of coverage that homeowners might have, especially when dealing with such unforeseen circumstances.

Our new shingle roof installation in Edgewood not only revitalizes the home’s exterior but also guarantees long-lasting protection against the elements. We pride ourselves on handling even the most complex situations proficiently, making sure our clients are well-informed and supported throughout the process.

Materials

Our team used Owens Corning Duration shingles in Amber for this project. For the base layer, we used Owens Corning synthetic underlayment. Additionally, Owens Corning weather lock was installed at pipes and vents for extra fortification. Goodrich Roofing is an Owens Corning platinum preferred contractor, showing our dedication to high quality materials and work.

Tile Roof Repair and TPO Roofing Replacement | Albuquerque

October 15, 2025 by John Sanchez

This home features a multi level roof which includes sections of tile and flat sections that were all previously Tar and Gravel. Goodrich Roofing repaired the entire roof which included a TPO replacement to one of the flat sections. Now with resealed tile and a new TPO surface, this roof is ready to take on Albuquerque’s unpredictable fall and winter.

The Problem

This homeowner came to Goodrich because of leaks. It is important to quickly deal with leaking in your home because it can be an indication of a serious issue that can cause structural damage. When our inspector visited the property to see what could be causing the leaks, it was clear that years of wear and tear were catching up to the roof. Seams that had been previously sealed were wearing down, leaving the roof exposed to the elements. There was also some decay around the tile sections which exposed more vulnerabilities.

Our Solution

Our expert roofing team decided that the best course of action was to reseal the tile and most of the tar and gravel sections. One of the flat roof sections needed more than just repair. We replaced it with a brand new TPO roofing System. We added a taper and replaced scuppers to ensure proper drainage and prevent pooling. Finally, we coordinated with HVAC to detach and reset the AC unit. As we worked on the new TPO section, we resealed the tile and Tar and Gravel sections. This ensures the whole system is properly sealed and our valued customer stays worry free during the wet season.

Materials

For the TPO roofing section, we used rigid poyiso foam insulation to serve as a solid and energy efficient base of the TPO membrane. For the TPO membrane, we used MuleHide Standard TPO, a sturdy and reliable option. The homeowner decided on the tan color to minimize contrast with the home’s stucco. Then, to seal the tile and Tar and Gravel sections, we used Gaco Patch silicone roof patch, our favorite long term roofing repair solution.

TPO Roof Replacement | Albuquerque

October 1, 2025 by John Sanchez

This customer came to us looking for a replacement on their old tar and gravel roof. There were obvious signs of leaking and it was showing its age. Tar and Gravel roofing systems are notorious for mess, repair difficulty, and significant weight. The experts at Goodrich Roofing solved these issues with a brand new TPO roofing system to reduce weight on the deck and increase energy efficiency for the entire home.

The Problem

When our skilled estimator saw the dated tar and gravel system it clearly needed a refresh. Although it was a common roofing method years ago, it is not anymore because of extreme weight, poor insulation, and messy and costly repairs. They require constant upkeep to ensure that their protective qualities are maintained and that they are draining properly. Additionally, they are difficult to dispose of, leading to environmental concerns. Overall, tar and gravel roofs are difficult to main and outdated. This roof was in need of a major refresh.

Our Solution

Goodrich Roofing specializes in TPO installation. Our skilled team has extensive experience with TPO. Our experts always recommend TPO roofing for its lightweight durability and energy efficiency. This job entailed the removal of the old Tar and Gravel system, a tedious process. Our team efficiently and cleanly removed the tar and gravel, exposing the deck which appeared to have years of water damage. So, we removed the old, wet decking and installed new wood to maintain structural integrity.

Atop the newly reinforced deck, we secured lightweight fanfold insulation then installed the new TPO membrane. TPO must be terminated on a vertical surface and the top part of the roof did not have a suitable surface for that. Our solution was to make custom TPO metal edges to secure the membrane to, allowing for proper termination. Throughout the job, our team successfully adapted to challenges and abnormalities of this roof, leaving the homeowner with an ideal TPO roofing solution.

Materials

For this TPO job, our team used Mule Hide Standard TPO. We mechanically attached and fully adhered the membrane using a process called TPO welding. We used R-Tech Fanfold insulation as the base layer that the TPO was installed atop adding to the energy efficiency of the system.

Shingle Roofing | White Rock

September 26, 2025 by John Sanchez

Goodrich Roofing is not just in Albuquerque! While, most of our projects take place around Albuquerque, we work in other parts of the state as well. This White Rock homeowner came to us looking for an estimate on a new roof. What we found, two layers of outdated shingles. Working with our customer’s insurance provider, we were able to get a full new shingle roof for the home almost fully covered. See how Goodrich Roofing, experts in shingle roofing, took on this project!

The Problem

This outdated roof was showing its age when our sales team took a first look. Atop a dated deck, two layers of old shingles weighed down the whole system. It was clear that the home would benefit from an entire new system. On top of that, the Los Alamos inspection policy says that they must inspect the deck after shingle tear-off and again placing underlayment. This meant we had to stay on schedule to ensure everything was completed in time and not delay the inspectors.

During our first inspection after tearing off the existing roof, the inspector found that the existing deck was not up to code because of large gaps between the existing planks. This meant that our team was required to add a new deck to the existing roof.

Our Solution

Upon approval from our customer, we began this job with the tear off. Because of the outdated deck that needed to be replaced, the job required extra materials. We found and coordinated a drop-off with a source in Los Alamos, saving time and keeping the work underway. Our expert project management team seamlessly coordinated with the familiar Los Alamos building inspectors to ensure inspections were scheduled and completed in a timely manner.

Our team easily installed the new deck, then the underlayment atop that. The second inspection passed and we moved on to the shingle installation where we efficiently attached shingles and sealed penetrations, adding vents along the way. Venting preserves the life of a roof, filtering heat away. Finally, we finished with flashing and painting all the features to match, leaving our happy customer with a sturdy and beautiful new shingle roofing system.

Materials

The shingle used for this job is Owens Corning Duration in Amber. We completed the base layer with Owens Corning synthetic underlayment and Owens Corning Ice & Water Barrier for sensitive areas like valleys and penetrations. We added 14″ turbine vents to help heat leave the attic and further protect the roof.

Words from the homeowner

Our roofing work left our customer more than satisfied. They told us that upon completion, they sat in the back yard admiring the new roof and the thorough job our team had done cleaning up. At Goodrich Roofing, we care deeply about our customer needs and feel accomplished to hear amazing reviews from our customers.
