Located on Albuquerque’s west side, this home featured an old roof showing its age after years of wear and tear. Our team worked closely with this homeowner to discover their specific needs and preferences for this old roof replacement project. The result, a new shingle roof to replace the worn old system and built to last with premium materials and workmanship.
Problems With Worn Old Roofs
Our team immediately saw years of wear and tear on this aged roof. The existing asphalt shingles were missing protective granules in many spots. Asphalt shingle roofing systems generally last 20-30 years. Even without immediate issues, and old shingle roof can cause problems like structural damage, leaking and rot. Although this roof held up well and there were no exposed sections, it was clearly time for a replacement.
Our Roof Replacement Solution
After deciding that a full re-roof would be the best course of action, we coordinated with this customer to accommodate their needs. After deciding when the best time would be for the job to start and the color of the new shingles, our team was ready to begin. When replacing an old roof, tear-off can be tedious because of the brittle dry shingles. Our expert crew was able to remove the shingles effectively and expose the existing deck with minimal damage. Upon removal, it was clear that there were vulnerabilities in the old shingle roofing system and the homeowner decided on replacement at a good time before any damage became permanent.
While our crew worked on the shingle replacement, they were also replacing the flat roof over the garage. Without issue, we removed the existing tar and gravel system and installed a new TPO membrane built to last. Our crew expertly laid underlayment and shingles on the pitched parts of the roof. As we finished up the shingle work, we ensured smooth integration between the shingle and TPO systems. Finally, we sealed and painted penetrations to match the color of the roof, completing the job.
