New Mexico loves metal roofing! If you’ve been following our recent projects, you’ve probably noticed that we have been doing a lot of full metal re-roofs. Why Upgrade?
Although asphalt shingles are by far the most common sloped roofing material in North America, many agree that metal is the most effective. The underlayment in a metal roofing system is built to withstand high temperatures. The protective top metal layer easily takes on even the most extreme conditions. Hail won’t knock off granules. Intense wind won’t peel off individual shingles. General wear and tear does not occur, which is why a metal roof can last up to 70 years if maintained correctly. Although expensive, metal is the premium sloped material option and many homeowners are looking for the elite protection that it offers.
Our Metal Roofing Installation Process
This job began with a full tear-off to ensure decking integrity. Los Alamos requires inspections both after tear-off and once the new roof is completed. Our team made sure to coordinate with city inspectors to get the job done on time. After tear-off and initial inspection, we commenced the installation of the metal roofing system. Our crews worked together as one completed the flat sections and TPO and the other laid the underlayment and metal. Finally, we ensured the whole system was well integrated and there were no weaknesses. This included adding ridge and flashing to penetrations to complete the job.
Materials
Goodrich Roofing works closely with suppliers to get the best quality materials on the market. Metal Center is our preferred metal supplier. We used their Zia-Lock profile in Ash Grey, a color that perfectly suits the house. We used Owens Corning PSU30 synthetic underlayment beneath the metal. For the TPO portions of the roof, we used MuleHide TPO in white and Velux for the Skylights. We honor the warranties of all of our manufacturers and offer a five year workmanship warranty because we stand behind our work.
