Churches present some of the most complex roofing challenges we encounter. Between multiple roof sections, mixed roofing systems, and the importance of minimizing disruption to an active congregation, every decision matters. This Albuquerque church is a perfect example of a roof that needed attention in several areas. Our versatile roofing experts worked on shingle replacement, TPO replacement, and tile repair, each requiring a different approach and a different set of skills.

Shingle Replacement
The shingle sections of this roof had reached the end of their service life. Worn shingles don’t just look bad, they leave the underlying deck vulnerable to moisture intrusion. Our crew removed the deteriorated shingles and inspected the decking beneath before installing new Owens Corning asphalt shingles built to hold up against New Mexico’s intense UV exposure, wind, and hail. Proper flashing at all transitions and penetrations was a priority to ensure the new shingles integrate seamlessly with the rest of the roofing system.
TPO Replacement
Some flat sections of this church’s roof were covered with an aging TPO membrane that had seen better days. TPO flat roofs need to be watertight, even a small failure in the membrane or at a seam can allow water to migrate across the entire flat section before it ever shows up as an interior leak. We replaced the failing membrane with new TPO, carefully heat-welding all seams and reinforcing terminations and penetration flashings to manufacturer specifications. The result is a flat roof system that drains properly and performs reliably.

Tile Repair
The tile sections of this roof are part of what gives this church its distinctive character, so tile maintenance is crucial to keeping the roofing system functioning well. Our team carefully removed the existing tiles, still in good condition, and replaced the protective underlayment beneath. We reattached the tiles and resealed flashings to ensure water resistance. Tile repair requires patience and an understanding of how the system works as a whole. Done correctly, it extends the life of the roof significantly while preserving the look the building is known for.

A Complex Job Done Right
Projects like this one are a good example of what sets Goodrich Roofing apart. Not every project requires a full replacement. Sometimes the right answer is a combination of targeted repairs and partial replacements, addressing what needs attention now while protecting what’s still performing well. That takes honest assessment and the ability to work across multiple roofing systems on the same job.
